How could one glorify the French Revolution when its other face was the Reign of Terror?

Can we say with certainty that the Terror was merely an aberration of an otherwise glorious awakening of the human spirit, a regrettably but momentary slide to madness, an inescapable component of social change after centuries of oppression. Or isn't it more logical to ume that anarchy and wholesale slaughter is the end of result of Humanism pursued for its own sake and divorced from divine-based principles?
