If a guy says he likes you to a friend but then?

your friend questions him about it then he says he was joking does that just mean he was joking? or does it mean he wants her to tell me about it then i ask him about it or what. i never asked him about it because i just took it as a joke and didn't want to embarr myself. also my friend is always saying he likes me from the way he is around me but i just don't see it. ido actually like him a lot.
