Toothache..is it time for dentist, noooooo?

so yesterday i'm drinking a soda and then i started feeling a little pain in my tooth or possibly gum region...shortly there after i got a piece of chewing gum and i couldnt really eat it, cuz whenever i chewed it would hurt...any eating i do i have been trying to avoid chewing on that side of my mouth, it is even to the point, that it causing me to speak with a lisp, cause whenever i say something with a S , it hurts....if i aint chewing or anything, then i do not feel no pain, keep in mind that i am not new to pain, normally after eating something sugary or cold, i feel some pain but only for a little bit but this kind is different.....is it the begining of a big problem or what?
